That boiler creates steam, which turns then turns an electrical turbine. -Coal is cheap and plentiful, and not too complex. -It emits soot though, filled with toxic chemicals and elements. While I could choose lead, mercury, arsenic etc I am choosing sulphur dioxide emissions. Coal isn't pure, and is usually 5% sulphur by weight. I would not go for solar or wind, as what do you do for power, when the sun is not shining or the wind blowing, you would still end up buying from another community some of the time.
